In case you didn’t know, today is Take Your Dog to Work Day, an unofficial holiday that traces its origins back to 1999.

The first Take Your Dog to Work Day was created by Pet Sitters International, a company that provides educational resources for professional pet sitters.

At Frequent Business Traveler, almost every day is Take Your Dog to Work Day as Editorial Director Jonathan Spira’s pup, Snickers the Wonderdog, who has his own Facebook page, is often found underneath one of the desks researching the canine viewpoint on travel.

Dogs are believed to not only exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit and, unlike some investment bankers, provide unlimited love and support. In addition, many people find having their dogs around during the workday reduces stress and improves their overall mood.

Like entrepreneurs, dogs are always curious and trying to sniff out the next opportunity and they don’t hesitate to show their excitement. In addition, many dogs make excellent travel and adventure companions.

Take Your Dog to Work Day is celebrated each year on the first Friday following Father’s Day.
