Southwest Reports Drop in Load Factor for May

Southwest Airlines announced operational results for May 2017.
The carrier reported an increase in capacity and traffic and a drop in its load factor.
The airline’s total system traffic was 11.23 billion RPMs, or revenue passenger miles, a year-over-year increase of 3.4% from 10.86 billion RPMs in May 2015.
The company reported a total system capacity of 13.16 billion ASMs, or available seat miles, up 4% from 12.65 billion the previous May.
Meanwhile, Southwest had a load factor of 85.4% for the month, a 0.4 percentage point decrease from 85.8% the preceding May.
Southwest forecast a rise of 1% to 2% in RASM, or revenue per available seat mile, for the second quarter, compared to the prior year.
