Memorial Day has come and gone, and this can only mean one thing: summer is officially here. Along with longer days, picnics and barbeques, and warmer – in some places, much warmer – weather, the arrival of summer also marks the beginning of the summer travel season.

The question remains though – where to travel? Where to take that well-deserved vacation? Where to go if you’re single, where to go if you’re in a relationship, where to go if you’re married with children? It’s a large world out there, and the possibilities are endless.

We’ve narrowed down the choices for you. We’ve scoured the globe and reviewed many destinations, and if you plan it right, you might have time to visit more than one of our top six recommended summer getaways.

Westin Mission Hills
Rancho Mirage, California

Warm weather and cuddly animals – what could be better, right? The Westin Mission Hills combines the two seamlessly on its grounds outside of Palm Springs. Among other amenities, the hotel provides a pet adoption program directly in the lobby with at least one dog in residence at all times to greet guests and interview them for their suitability of providing a new home.

The large grounds, 360 acres (146 hectares), offer guests everything from seclusion to mountain views to a pool to lounge by. Guests can borrow the lobby dog for walks on the property as well. Not one but two championship golf courses are available, and the property’s golf pro will be happy to give you tips on how to improve your game.

Dining options include Dilbert’s Diner, a popular venue for families, or Pinzimi, an Italian restaurant. Las Brisas Café and Caliente Bar are poolside options open on weekends.
