Following the severing of diplomatic relations between five Arab nations – Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen – and Qatar, multiple airlines announced the cancellation of all flights to Qatar and Qatar Airways announced it had suspended all flights to Saudi Arabia.

Dubai-based Emirates said it was suspending flights to Qatar until further notice starting Tuesday. Abu Dhabi-based Etihad said on its website that it was also suspending flights to Qatar effective Tuesday. In addition, budget carrier FlyDubai announced that it was cancelling all flights to Qatar as well.

The United Arab Emirates’ Foreign Ministry of Affairs said it would close its airspace, seaports, and territorial waters to Qataris and ban “all Qatari means of transportation, coming to or leaving the UAE, from crossing, entering or leaving the UAE territories.

Similar moves are expected from other countries in the region.
