American Express will become the exclusive card issuer for Hilton and its Hilton Honors guest loyalty program, the two companies announced Thursday.

Both American Express and Citigroup have been affiliated with the Hilton Honors program in recent years and the hotelier announced plans over a year ago to move to a single provider.

The move will “enhance value” for Hilton Honors members, according to Mark Weinstein, Hilton’s senior vice president of customer engagement and loyalty, who also said that the hotelier was focused “on adding new benefits for our Hilton Honors members.”

The exclusive arrangement will go into effect starting in January 2018.

No announcement has been made as to whether American Express will acquire Citi’s Hilton cardholders. It currently has multiple partnerships with travel-related companies including an exclusive arrangement with Delta and Starwood, although the latter remains a question mark due to the Starwood-Marriott merger.
