The new card, which will be issued by Republic Bank, is the first prepaid card in the United States that allows flyers to earn miles using a prepaid card, the airline said. It will become available to consumers in the summer.

The MileagePlus Go card provides “another avenue” for customers to earn MileagePlus miles, said Praveen Sharma, United’s vice president of loyalty programs.

“We are continuing to innovate and develop new payment products that meet evolving customer needs,” said David Josephs, a Visa executive in charge of debit and prepaid solutions.
