Touching down in Honolulu

A passenger on an American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu tried to breach the cockpit while en route.

“Due to a disturbance during the flight, the crew requested that law enforcement meet the aircraft upon landing in Honolulu,” the airline said in a statement.

Flight 31, which left Los Angeles International Airport at 8:45 a.m. local time, was escorted to Honolulu by two F-22 fighter jets. The flight landed early at 11:35 a.m. local time at Honolulu International Airport.

The passenger, who reportedly tried to open the cockpit door after waiting for the lavatory in the first-class cabin, was detained in Honolulu, the Department of Homeland Security said.

The airline said it is “in touch” with federal law enforcement officials in Honolulu.

The Department of Homeland Security issued a statement saying that there were “no other reports of disruptions to flights.”
