IMG_2770Delta Air Lines announced new ways to upgrade tickets subsequent to the original purchase.

The new functionality allows travelers who already have an itinerary booked to purchase Delta’s premium economy seats, Delta Comfort+, or seats in the first-class cabin for all or part of the trip.

The additional purchases can be made by phone or on Delta’s website. Delta said it will soon add this functionality to its Fly Delta app as well.

Any Delta ticket is eligible, regardless of where it was purchased or how it was paid for, with the exception of award tickets. Travel must be entirely on Delta metal.

“This is all about consumer choice,” said Rhonda Crawford, the airline’s vice president for global distribution and digital strategy.

The airline did, however, not indicate that the same functionality would be available for upgrading to its Delta One international cabin on transcon and international flights.
