DSC_0345-1(2)BMW of North America announced that it installed the first of 20 new Light and Charge electric vehicle charging locations in Seattle. The station is located at Woodland Park Zoo.

The 20 stations will provide a total of 100 chargers, including both DC Fast Chargers and Level II chargers. Each station will have one Fast Charger and two to four AC Level II chargers.

The Light and Charge system turns existing streetlights and parking lot light poles into EV charging stations available to the public. Seattle is the first city in North America to implement the system.

The addition of the stations will allow BMW’s ReachNow car-sharing service to expand its fleet of electric vehicles in the city. The BMW i3 currently makes up 10% of the ReachNow fleet.

The ReachNow app allows users to locate and book the closest available car or find a ReachNow car on the street, which they can then return to any legal parking space on the street. Users can also request a specific vehicle to be delivered to their location immediately or at a future time.
