United Load Factor Down Slightly in March, Traffic and Capacity Up

DSC_0116 (1)United Airlines announced operational results for March 2017. The carrier’s consolidated traffic and capacity were up year-over-year, while its load factor decreased for the month.

Total traffic for the Chicago-based airline during the month of March was 17.61 billion RPMs, or revenue passenger miles, an increase of 3% from 17.1 billion RPMs in March 2016.  The carrier’s total capacity for the month was up 3.4% to 21.66 billion ASMs, or available seat miles, from 20.95 billion ASMs last March.

Meanwhile, United’s consolidated load factor decreased slightly, down 0.3 percentage points to 81.3% from 81.6% in March 2016.

United saw a decrease of 0.7% in international traffic, while its international capacity rose by 1.9%.  The airline reported a 5.8% increase in domestic traffic, with a 4.6% rise in domestic capacity.
