New York City to Require Uber to Allow Tipping
The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission said on Monday that it plans to require all for-hire services to offer passengers the opportunity to leave the driver a gratuity via the same method used to pay for the trip.
The agency plans to propose this in a rule this summer.
The move would likely affect Uber more than other services as Uber does not currently have a tipping feature in its app.
Uber competitor Lyft allows tips.
The change could have ramifications beyond the city’s borders as customers will expect to have the same user interface regardless of their location.
