DINING

For dinner at the hotel’s Bookstore Bar and Café, I sampled a number of eclectic small dishes before partaking in the main course. I tried a poke platter, essentially a raw fish salad reminiscent of sushi, my first time having the dish, and it was quite delicious. Next was a plate of thinly sliced beef jerky, so thin in fact, that the pieces melted in my mouth.

At the recommendation of the waiter, I ordered the restaurant’s bacon cheeseburger, and was glad I did. Topped with the restaurant’s secret special sauce and served with steak fries, it was truly a testament to how good a simple burger with cheese can be.

For dessert I had the chocolate soufflé, which was somewhat theatrically warmed at the table. It was light, airy, and the perfect end to the meal.

BOTTOM LINE

The Kimpton Alexis Hotel is a spectacular blending of past and present, a true icon of where Seattle has been and where it is going. The staff was accommodating, the property was centrally located, and the comfort of the room makes it an enticing establishment to return to.
