The optional Bose Panaray sound system, which boosts the cost of the CT6 by $3,700, adds 34 tiny speakers to the CT6’s cabin, with a goal of creating an immersive soundstage, and provides crisp and strong sound. Press the start button and the Panaray’s center channel rises slowly and silently from the dash, and the CT6’s rear deck is another speaker array. “What’s a Panaray?” a passenger asked me as the center channel made its appearance.

It took a few days to get used to the optional Rear Camera Mirror, my first experience with HD streaming video in a rear-view mirror. The system offers 300% more coverage than a traditional mirror (one can flip it into actual mirror functionality with a switch similar to that used for selecting between day and night modes on common installations) and I appreciated the additional visibility it added.

Night Vision returns to Cadillac in the CT6 and works admirably. The system creates a highly detailed image of what is in front of the vehicle, well beyond headlight range, and uses algorithms to detect animals and pedestrians in the path of the vehicle, highlighting them in the display.

Other driver assistance technologies include a blind spot alert, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision alert, pedestrian detection, and lane departure warning with lane keep assist. All of these work quite well together and the rate of false alerts is much lower than what I’ve found on other cars with similar technology.

In the 1950s, Cadillac’s marketing told the world, “Those who want the finest want – the Standard of the World,” but then came the Arab oil embargo, the energy crisis, corporate average fuel economy standards, and German and Japanese luxury car invasions.

As a result, Cadillac has been in perpetual comeback mode for close to two decades. With the CT6, however, it has succeeded in building a cool, hip, and relevant car that should appeal to a variety of buyers, perhaps a new standard of the world.
