Travelers trying to get to New York’s LaGuardia Airport, which is in the midst of a major redevelopment project, by car may soon find less traffic.

The relief comes in the form of a temporary exit ramp that will take drivers from the Delta terminal at the airport to the westbound lanes of the Grand Central Parkway. It will only be open to traffic when congestion at the airport is severe because its use requires the closure of one lane of the parkway.

In addition, officials said they renamed the “Cell Phone Lot” because drivers had understood that to mean that the mobile-phone users would experience better reception there.

The free waiting area formerly known as the Cell Phone Lot, now simply called the “Wait Area,” was opened last December and is located in Lot P5. Parking is free for the first three hours.
