Delta Air Lines announced plans to upgrade the service it offers between two city pairs, Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles, and Boston and San Francisco.

Starting April 24, the Atlanta-based airline will offer daily non-stop premium transcon service between Los Angeles International and Ronald Reagan Washington National airports. The service between Boston Logan International and San Francisco International airports will begin on June 8.

Both routes will be operated using Boeing 757-200 aircraft configured with a Delta One business-class cabin that the airline currently uses on existing premium transcon routes such as that between New York’s John F. Kennedy International and San Francisco International airports.

The Delta One cabin on the 757 features fully lie-flat seats in a 2-2 configuration. Each seat provides the airline’s Westin Heavenly In-Flight bedding including a duvet and pillow, a Tumi amenity kit with a selection of products from Kiehl’s, a large monitor for the in-flight entertainment system, and noise-cancelling headphones. In addition, passengers traveling in the Delta One cabin will have access to the Sky Club before and after flights and those departing from Los Angeles will have access to the Delta One at LAX private check-in area.

Premium transcon routes have traditionally been those linking New York City with San Francisco and Los Angeles. Both routes are considered highly competitive.

JetBlue expanded its premium transcon service, Mint, to several new city pairs last year including Boston-Los Angeles and Boston-San Francisco. United Airlines plans to begin offering its premium transcon service, known as p.s., between Boston and San Francisco this summer.

Although both United and American offered a distinct first-class cabin and service on premium transcon flights, only American provides this service at the present.
