The Virgin brand will disappear in 2019

Alaska Airlines, which acquired Virgin America late last year, said that it plans to operate solely under the Alaska brand.

The Virgin America brand will be retired “likely sometime in 2019,” the airline said in a blog post. The move follows months of consideration and interviews with customers.

The airline does plan to keep “many of the elements you love about Virgin America,” it said.

Promising a “modern, warm and welcoming vibe,” the carrier plans an entirely new cabin design with new seats both in first and coach, new music, and new uniforms for flight attendants, pilots, customer service agents, mechanics, and ground crew.

The airline also plans to make its Alaska Mileage Plan the sole frequent flyer program starting in 2018.

Also on the docket are lounge renovations in Seattle, Portland, and Los Angeles as well as new lounges in San Francisco and at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
