DSC_0011 (1)United Airlines said Wednesday it plans to “deepen” its relationship with Avianca and Avianca Brasil.

All three carriers are members of Star Alliance, one of the world’s three global airline alliances.

The move will enhance “our cooperation to provide even better service for our customers,” said United’s president, Scott Kirby. United plans to build “a great network” based on the existing Star Alliance relationship as well as on partnerships in Latin America.

Avianca, the flag carrier of Colombia, is the world’s second oldest airline after KLM, and second largest in Latin America. It is headquartered in Bogotá and has its main hub at El Dorado International Airport.
