Miami International Sees Seventh Consecutive Year of Passenger Growth
Miami International Airport announced traffic figures for the year 2016.
The south Florida airport served a record number of passengers last year, with approximately 44.6 million travelers passing through the facility, an increase of 234,000 from 2015, and the seventh consecutive year the airport has experienced passenger growth.
International traffic increased by 0.82% to approximately 21.4 million passengers, despite travel from the Florida city to Brazil, the airport’s top international market, falling by 600,000 passengers. Meanwhile, domestic traffic increased, by 0.26% to 23.2 million passengers.
Also reported for 2016 were 2.18 million tons in freight traffic, a 0.37% increase from 2015. The majority of the freight, 1.9 million tons, consisted of international shipments, while only 287,953 tons were domestic.
