DSC_5364 (1)L’affaire Dieselgate has spread from Germany to Italy as the Environmental Protection Agency accused Fiat Chrysler on Thursday of using “undisclosed” software that allowed a number of its vehicles to exceed emissions standards in the United States.

“Once again, a major automaker made the business decision to skirt the rules and got caught,” said Cynthia Giles, an assistant administrator at the EPA.

Affected models include the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Ram 1500 trucks with 3.0-liter diesel engines from model years 2014 through 2016.

The deception resulted in excess emissions causing “harmful pollution in the air we breathe,” the agency said.
