Delta Air Lines, which experienced a major computer systems failure that grounded the airline Sunday evening, said early Monday that its operations are “recovering” and all of its systems were back up shortly after midnight.

The outage, which took place at 6:30 p.m. EST Sunday, grounded all departures for hours and resulted in some 170 cancellations.

Approximately 80 flights have been cancelled for Monday as the airline plays catch-up and repositions aircraft that did not end up where they were supposed to be due to the cancellations.

Terming the disruption “unacceptable,” Delta CEO Ed Bastian apologized for the situation.

“I want to apologize to all of our customers who have been impacted by this frustrating situation,” he said, adding a thank you to Delta’s employees for “working tirelessly” throughout the event.
