Planning a trip in or out of a British airport around Christmas? You might want to stay home.

Over 1,500 baggage handlers, check-in agents, and other ground staff employed by Swissport at 18 airports across the United Kingdom are set to walk off the job over the holiday weekend.

Airports that would be impacted by the job action include Stansted, Luton, Gatwick, Leeds-Bradford, Manchester, Cardiff, Belfast, Glasgow, and Edinburgh, while Birmingham, Southampton, and Newcastle airports would see the greatest impact because Swissport employees handle all ground operations. Cargo workers at London Heathrow might also go on strike.

Swissport employees who are members of the Unite union plan to hold the strike for 48 hours starting on December 23.

Negotiations between the union and Swissport are continuing, however, in an effort to come to an agreement on a new contract before the threatened walkout but cabin crew at British Airways are also planning a strike over the holidays and pilots at Virgin Atlantic plan an overtime ban which could result in some cancelled flights.
