Marriott Debuts New Luxury Group, Will Open 30 New Properties in 2017
Marriott International announced on Monday the formation of its new Luxury Brands Group.
The hotelier is building on its recent merger with Starwood Hotels and Resorts to bring together its eight high-end brands under one umbrella. This includes what was the Starwood Luxury Collection, a portfolio of independent hotels worldwide, as well as two other former Starwood brands, St. Regis and W. These groups have been combined with the Ritz-Carlton, Edition, JW Marriott, Bulgari, and Ritz-Carlton Reserve to form the new unit.
The Luxury Brands Group operates hotels in over 61 countries and Marriott said it plans to open an additional 30 in the coming year. Beyond 2017, the hotelier says it will open 150 more properties, many in new countries including Cuba, Iceland, and Nepal.
The 2017 openings will consist of four Ritz-Carlton properties, including locations in Langkawi, Malaysia, and Astana, Kazakhstan, and five new St. Regis hotels, in such diverse locations as Shanghai, Changsha, and Cairo. Other planned openings are six W Hotels in locations including Tel Aviv, Shanghai, and Panama City. Two JW Marriotts in Vietnam and Canada, and nine Luxury Collection properties in Napa Valley, Panama City, and Singapore, among others, are also planned.
