The opening of Berlin Brandenburg Airport has been once again delayed.

The opening was originally scheduled for October 2011, but was pushed back several times, with the most recent delay pushing the opening back to the end of 2017. It is now expected that the airport will not open until 2018, seven years later than was originally planned.

Reasons for the delays have included issues with the construction planning, as well as problems with the building’s fire safety system, cost overrun, and corruption.

The cost of the airport has increased to €5.4 billion ($5.6 billion), nearly triple its original cost.
