IMG_8937 (2)Alaska Airlines and the union representing its mechanics announced a tentative agreement on a five-year contract late Monday.

Without citing specifics, the airline said that the new agreement would include significant increases in salary as well as improved job protection.

The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association, which represents some 700 mechanics at Alaska, noted the speed with which the airline and the union reached an agreement.

“This agreement was reached only 53 days past the current amendable date, thus indicating the importance of taking care of the people,” said the union’s national director, Bret Oestreich.

The airline, referencing its employees, said that the contract “reflects their expertise, contributions and commitment to safety.”
