DSC_0290 (1)Lufthansa announced that Vereinigung Cockpit, the union representing the airline’s 5,400 pilots, will stage strikes this week on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 29 and 30. The move follows two strikes that the union staged last week, during which thousands of flights, both short-haul and long, were cancelled.

The union said that Tuesday’s strike will affect all short-haul flights from 12:01 a.m. through 11:59 p.m. local time, while Wednesday’s strike will last a full 24 hours as well, and will affect all Lufthansa flights departing Germany.

Lufthansa said that it put special flight schedules into effect for the two days, and that it plans to operate 2,184 of the 3,000 scheduled Lufthansa Group flights on Tuesday, and 2,110 Lufthansa Group flights on Wednesday.

As with last week’s strikes, Lufthansa Group airlines Eurowings, Germanwings, Swiss International Air Lines, Austrian Airlines, Air Dolomiti, and Brussels Airlines flights will not be affected.

The airline said that Tuesday’s strike will affect approximately 82,000 passengers while Wednesday’s strike will likely affect around 98,000 passengers.
