IMG_8924LOS ANGELES—An aircraft being towed to a gate for departure hit the pushback tractor bringing it to the gate.

The accident, which involved a China Southern Airlines aircraft heading to the Tom Bradley International Terminal, occurred at 1:30 a.m. local time. Officials at the airport said that the tow bar broke, which then allowed the plane to collide with the tug.

Multiple flights including American Airlines and Qantas flights to Australia and Hong Kong were cancelled because the accident blocked a taxiway to and from the terminal.

The tug operator was not seriously injured in the accident, LAX officials reported.
