DSC_0290 (1)Lufthansa announced the beta of a new chatbot that travelers can access via Facebook Messenger. Named Mildred, the chatbot will help users search for a flight up to nine months out.

Lufthansa describes Mildred as a “friendly lady with glasses and pink hair.”

Once in a chat session with Mildred, a traveler can provide dates and destinations using city names, full airport names, as well as airport codes.  Mildred will then narrow down available flights by asking additional questions.

When Mildred offers a flight meeting the user’s wishes, he can click “book now” and to the airline’s mobile website, where tickets for the flight may be purchased.

The chatbot is available both as iPhone and Android apps, and may also be accessed on laptop and desktop computers via a browser.

The chatbot currently supports English and German, and Lufthansa says that it will soon add additional languages.
