DSC_0723Delta Air Lines announced that it will now provide real-time updates of the location of checked baggage to passengers using its Fly Delta app.

The system uses radio frequency identification tags attached to passengers’ bags to keep them informed of the status of their bags with live updates.

Passengers will receive status updates at various points, including when their bag is successfully loaded onto an aircraft, as well as which carousel it will arrive at.

Delta said that a study from the Air Transport Association indicated that an industry-wide implementation of a radio identification tracking system could potentially reduce the number of mishandled bags by 25% by 2022.
