2 Dead After Fiery Tesla Crash in Indianapolis

IMG_0340 (1)A Tesla Model S exploded after the 27-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle and it crashed into a tree in Indianapolis on Thursday.

Both the passenger, a 44-year-old male, and the driver, a 27-year-old female, were killed in the accident. The driver, Casey Speckman, was reportedly traveling at excessive speed when the crash took place and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger died shortly after having been transported to hospital.

The electric vehicle’s lithium-ion battery cells began to explode shortly after impact according to eyewitness accounts. “Some of those smaller cells had that broken apart were firing almost like projectiles around the rescuers, Indianpolis Fire Department Battalion Chief Kevin Jones told the Indianapolis Star.
