DSC_0295United Airlines announced that it began construction on the future home of its Technical Operations Center at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Tuesday.

The $162 million facility will offer approximately 200,000 square feet (18,580 square meters) of additional hangar space when completed. The facility will accommodate United’s wide-body aircraft, including Boeing 767s, 777s, 787 Dreamliners, and Airbus A350s.

United said that center will provide a better work environment with improved levels of safety and efficiency for its maintenance technicians and support personnel.

The facility will also serve as a warehouse distribution center, and will house administrative offices.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
