Travelers Face Delays, Cancellations as Hurricane Matthew Hammers Caribbean
Hurricane Matthew, which hammered Haiti with high winds and torrential rain, is now giving Cuba the same treatment, and forecasters say that the Bahamas are next in line for Matthew’s hurricane-force winds and rain.
Tropical storm and hurricane watches are now in effect in Florida’s East Coast and Matthew could arrive there as early as Thursday.
If the storm continues along its present path, it could potentially head northeast to coastal Georgia and the coastal Carolinas this weekend.
Hurricane Matthew is an extremely dangerous Category 4 hurricane and those in the impacted areas should take appropriate precautions.
All major U.S. airlines have issued travel waivers for those with ticketed flights to the impacted parts of the United States and Caribbean. While numerous flights to Haiti and Cuba have been cancelled, airlines have not yet started to cancel flights in and out of the southeastern United States but travelers should expect significant delays and cancellations.
