2017 Acura RDX – Review and Test Drive

Refreshed for the 2016 model year, the once plain Jane Acura RDX was first presented to society at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show. The makeover did much to help the RDX stand out in a crowd.

New for 2016 were the cool-looking Jewel Eye LED headlights with light piping on the front fascia (the rear gets LED taillights), a more distinguished bumper thanks to new character lines, and some finer sculpting here and there. The result is an RDX that, while it might not turn heads at the ball, will look quite appealing as one hands the valet the key fob.

Inside, there are the same Acura quality materials and plastics that distinguish the marque, with plush and comfortable leather seats, more storage areas than one would ever need for a trip, and generous cargo space – 26 cubic feet or 736 liters – when the second row seats are in place and just about double that when they are down.

We still find the number of buttons and switches in the Acura somewhat objectionable but the automaker has done a much better job of organizing them and making their purpose clearer, making it relatively easy to find the function you needed without taking your gaze away from the road.

The center stack has the typical two-screen layout that allows driver or passenger to monitor and control navigation and other functions such as audio or climate control simultaneously.
