Despite the somewhat early hour (my flight landed at 10:40 a.m. and I arrived at the hotel shortly before noon), my room was ready and I was given two keys along with a warm welcome.

My LM Club Room was on the hotel’s eighth floor, part of a two-story complex attached to the new LM Club Lounge. The hotel explains the lounge as a “private living room” and it offers breakfast in the morning and a variety of soft drinks, and snacks throughout the day. While the lounge was certainly welcoming, the big draw for me (beyond the high-tech espresso machines) was the outdoor terrace that was outfitted for al fresco morning dining and offered great city views.

The hotel began remodeling rooms in phases almost eight years ago and the design by Jean-Philippe Nuel follows a template of a refined décor that integrates Parisian culture and travel in each. This includes headboards with illustrated maps of the capital and photographs of the city by Angie McMonigal hang in both rooms and hallways.

While not overly spacious, the design was intelligent in terms of layout and usability. The closet and shelf design left one with the impression that M Nuel had given much thought to a guest’s needs in a hotel. The bathroom and water closet were both very well lighted and the only miss – and a slight miss at that – was the bathrobe. It happened to be a very nice cotton bathrobe with wonderfully soft material. The problem was that it had a single loop for the belt in the back (the location of the pockets precluded additional loops apparently) and that meant that the belt was always drooping to the bathroom floor.

A small wooden writing desk, paired with a good looking but decidedly non-ergonomic desk chair, sufficed for work, lighting was excellent, and there was a separate chair and table in the corner near the window, suitable for work away from the desk.

Internet was extremely fast and available at no charge.
