DSC_0262 2The Hotel at Oberlin opened this week in Oberlin, Ohio. The environmentally friendly property is owned by nearby Oberlin College and serves as an anchor to the Peter B. Lewis Gateway Center, the cornerstone of Oberlin’s Green Arts District.

The property incorporates solar, geothermal, and radiant heating and cooling. It is one of five hotels in the country to qualify for LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. It is slated to host a conference on climate change next month with speakers that include former California Governor Arnold Schwarenegger.

The Hotel at Oberlin has 70 guestrooms and suites, as well as 6,500 square feet (603 square meters) of meeting and event space. Guests can dine at the property’s restaurant, 1833, named after the year that the college was founded.

Next year, the hotel will erect a sculpture by Ohio artist Maya Lin, which will be inspired by the local landscape and climate.
