DSC_0498The union representing pilots at Delta Air Lines has reached an agreement in principle with the airline for a new contract, both parties said Friday.

The new contract comes after a year of negotiation and mediation as well as informational picketing by the pilots. The Airline Pilots Association represents over 13,000 pilots at the Atlanta-based carrier.

While details have not yet been released, the airline termed the deal an “industry-leading package of pay, benefits and work rules” while the union said the agreement “achieves the goal of advancing the profession while raising the bar for all airline industry pilots.”

The full contract needs to be reviewed by union leaders. If approved, it will still need to be ratified by the rank-and-file pilots.
