American Airlines President Scott Kirby to Join United in Same Role
Scott Kirby, who until Monday morning served as the president of American Airlines, found himself briefly out of a job as part of an executive suite reshuffling and was appointed president of United Airlines later the same day.
“Scott is a proven leader, whose deep airline experience and expertise will further accelerate our efforts to build the best airline in the industry,” said United’s CEO, Oscar Munoz, in a statement.
The reorganization at American came after the airline said it did not believe “it would not be able to retain its existing executive team in their current roles for an extended period.”
Kirby, who held senior executive positions at America West and US Airways prior to the merger with American, will be replaced as American’s president by the carrier’s chief operating officer, Robert Isom, who will continue to report to the airline’s chairman and CEO, Doug Parker.
