American Sees Slight Increase in May Traffic, Drop in Load Factor

DSC_0949American Airlines Group announced operational results for May 2016.

Consolidated system traffic for the airline was 19.44 billion revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, up 0.5% from 19.33 billion in the same period last year.  Consolidated capacity was 23.74 billion available seat miles, or ASMs, a 1.7% increase from 23.34 billion the previous May.

The carrier’s consolidated load factor was 81.9%, down 0.9 percentage points from 82.8% in May 2015.

The Fort Worth-based carrier said it anticipate a 6% to 8% decline in consolidated passenger revenue per available seat mile for the 2016 second quarter.
