JAL to Offer New In-Flight Menu, Serve Halal Certified Dishes

DSC_9302Japan Airlines announced that it will offer new in-flight menu items in business class on select international routes beginning June 1. The carrier will also begin serving Halal certified meals on all outbound international flights from Japan on June 1.

Well-known Japanese chef Jun Kurogi will design Japan Airlines’ new business-class menus. The summer items will be available through August 31.

New items will include egg rolls with sweet simmered sweet potato and apricot in sauce, as well as simmered octopus, simmered pumpkin, deep-fried eggplant in Japanese broth with stir-fried mountain asparagus, carrots, and snow peas. Additional new dishes will be kelp-flavored sea-bream, summer vegetables and seaweed with citrus soy jelly and marinated celery, and stewed beef tongue.

The new menu ill be available on flights from Tokyo Narita to Chicago, Boston, New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas/Fort Worth, Frankfurt, Helsinki, Paris, Sydney, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok, as well as from Tokyo Haneda to London, Paris, Singapore, and Bangkok, and from Osaka Kansai to Los Angeles.

Japan Airlines will also begin providing Halal certified meals for Muslims on all of its outbound international flights, as well as on flights from Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta. The carrier said that it will also change the dishware in Halal meals to silverware with Halal certification.
