DSC_0422Delta Air Lines, which recently announced an improved process for clearing complimentary upgrades, announced a change in the policy for complimentary upgrades for a SkyMiles Medallion member traveling with a companion.

Starting this fall, both travelers will clear for a complimentary upgrade based on the status of the passenger with the higher status. For example, a Platinum Medallion member traveling with a Silver will both clear at the Platinum level, based on availability.

Previously, both would clear for a complimentary upgrade based on the status of the passenger with the lower status.

The Atlanta-based airline also announced the ability to specify default preferences for complimentary upgrades, a move necessitated by the creation of a separate fare class for Delta Comfort+, the airline’s premium economy lite section. SkyMiles members can set preferences in the My Delta section of the airline’s website by going to My Profile and then Flight Preferences.
