Delta Air Lines, Atlanta’s dominant carrier, is finalizing a deal with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to stay 20 more years.

The lease, if approved by the Atlanta City Council, will include the construction of Concourse G and new parking facilities. Delta can exercise an option to extend the deal by ten years, if it wishes, but the agreement also requires Delta to maintain its headquarters in the city of Atlanta.

The deal is designed to ensure that the Hartsfield-Jackson “remains one of the most cost-competitive airports in the country,” said airport general manager Miguel Southwell at an Atlanta city council meeting Monday.

“At the end of the day, I believe we have the best agreement the city could have gotten,” he said.
