JetBlue Airways, which recently lost the bidding war for Virgin America Airways, is continuing to expand its premium service, Mint, to new markets.

The New York-based carrier is expected to announce to add Mint to several routes including from Los Angeles and San Francisco to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as well as linking Las Vegas and New York, San Diego with New York and Boston, and Seattle with New York and Boston.

Mint originally competed with business- and first-class service on American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines on what are considered the nation’s premium transcon routes, New York to both San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Introduced in 2014, Mint offers passengers a premium cabin with a fully lie-flat seat.  Four seats in the cabin are private suites with doors.  The seats in the private suites are 22” wide and extend into an 80”-long bed.  The remaining 12 seats in the cabin are 20.5” wide.

Seat features include air cushions with adjustable firmness, massage, an area for shoe storage, two 110-volt electrical outlets, and two USB ports.  Each seat has a 15” flat screen with 100 DirectTV channels as well as 100 stations from SiriusXM satellite radio.

JetBlue’s in-flight service includes a pre-departure drink, an amuse bouche after take-off, and a choice of five dishes served tapas style.  The meal concludes with Marble Ice Cream and fresh bakery desserts.

Each passenger will receive a Birchbox amenity kit (with a choice of men’s or women’s), and each seat has a “wake me for service” indicator that allows passengers to sleep uninterrupted if desired.

JetBlue operates Mint service on a sub-fleet of A321 aircraft, which also offer a new seat in coach with a 10.1” personal video monitor and the same choice of television and satellite radio programs.  The seats also have power outlets and a cup holder.

The first five rows of coach are part of the airline’s premium economy lite offering, Even More Space, and have a seat pitch between 37” and 41”. All coach seats are 18” wide.

Already this year, JetBlue has announced Mint flights from New York to both St. Lucia and St. Maarten in the Caribbean, and from Boston to Aruba, as well as from Boston to San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Barbados.
