DSC_5025In a move that demonstrates the importance of social media for customer support in the travel business, Delta Air Lines announced plans to merge its customer support Twitter handle, @DeltaAssist, with its primary Twitter handle, @Delta.

Delta holds the distinction of being the first U.S. airline to have offered real-time customer support via Twitter, which it made available almost six years ago.

Going forward, Delta customers should use @Delta instead of @DeltaAssist, when seeking customer support via Twitter.

“By incorporating @DeltaAssist into @Delta, our customers will have one source for in-the-moment assistance before, during and after their travels, along with access to Delta updates, travel tips and much more,” said Charisse Evans, the airline’s vice president for reservations, sales, and customer care.
