China’s HNA to Acquire Carlson Hotel Group

Carlson Hotel Group, known for a range of hotel brands that includes Radisson and Country Inns & Suites, will be acquired by HNA Tourism Group, a unit of Chinese conglomerate HNA Group, the two companies announced Wednesday.

The hotelier operates over 1,400 hotels that are familiar to travelers including under names that include the Quorvus Collection, Radisson Blu, Radisson, Radisson Red, Park Plaza, Park Inn by Radisson, and Country Inns & Suites. It also operates the Club Carlson guest loyalty program.

The deal with HNA, for which the purchase price was not disclosed, will include the sale of Carlson’s 51.3% stake in Brussels-based Rezidor Hotel Group, the hotelier’s master licensee.

The hotel business will keep its headquarters in Minnetonka, Minnesota, to “preserve Carlson’s values, heritage and community connections,” HNA said in a statement Wednesday.Carlson’s parent company, Carlson Hospitality Group, owns business travel manager Carlson Wagonlit Travel.
