United Sees Traffic, Capacity Increases for February

DSC_0281United Airlines announced operational results for February 2016.  The carrier’s consolidated traffic and capacity for the year were up, while its load factor fell year-over-year.

Total traffic for the Chicago-based airline during the month of February was 14.065 billion RPMs, or revenue passenger miles, an increase of 2.7% from 13.693 billion RPMs in February 2015.  The carrier’s total capacity for the month was up 6%, to 18.259 billion ASMs, or available seat miles, from 17.219 billion ASMs last February.

Meanwhile, United’s consolidated load factor decreased slightly, down 2.5 percentage points to 77% from 79.5% in February 2015.

In terms of international traffic, United saw a rise of 1.5%, while its international capacity increased by 5.5%.  The carrier also saw a 4% increase in domestic revenue passenger miles, with a 7.1% increase in domestic available seat miles.

Mainline RPMs rose 2.8% with an increase of 6.3% in mainline ASMs, while regional RPMs rose 2.3% with a 4.3% increase in regional ASMs.
