Tesla Motors is in the process of deploying additional charging stations in Manhattan, a move that will make the ratio of charging stations to gas stations more than 2 to 1.

By the end of March, Tesla’s network of charging stations will number 105 in Manhattan. By contrast, there are fewer than 40 gas stations in the borough, a 33% decrease from 2004.

Most of the Tesla charging stations will be free to Tesla owners. The chargers can add 60 miles of range per hour of charging. Sixty-eight of the stations are in Manhattan garages. Until recently, Tesla has largely installed its chargers at hotels and restaurants.

The Palo Alto-based automaker recently operated a large showroom and service department in Red Hook, Brooklyn, as well as a showroom in Chelsea.
