DSC_0600 (1)Accura Media Group announced a change of name for one of its publications. The Diesel Driver has been renamed The Green Car Driver to reflect an increased interest in electric vehicles, hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and other alternative fuel vehicles. It will of course continue to cover the diesel market as well.

The Diesel Driver was founded in 2009 as the only U.S. publication that focused on the experience of owning and driving a diesel-powered automobile. Since then, the publication launched the Diesel Car of the Year and Diesel Car Manufacturer of the Year award programs, and saw multiple new entrants into the marketplace.

Accura had planned to introduce The Green Car Driver as a separate publication in 2016, but the change in the diesel market in the United States starting last September with the revelation that Volkswagen had installed emissions test cheating software on some of its diesel models made the combination of the two publications a logical conclusion.

Over the years, writers at The Diesel Driver also tested dozens of fine diesel automobiles from Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Volkswagen, among others, and enjoyed a series of long-term vehicles starting with our beloved BMW 335d, continuing with the BMW X5 xDrive35d, the BMW ActiveHybrid 5, the Mercedes-Benz E350 BlueTec, the Volkswagen Jetta TDI, the Chevrolet Cruze diesel, the Mercedes-Benz E250 BlueTec, and the BMW 535d.

These and other fine brands and models will continue to be tested and reviewed at The Green Car Driver as it continues in the proud tradition established by The Diesel Driver.
