This is a mixed blessing: I relished a drive around the taxiways and managed to snap some photos but we also had to wait about 15 minutes for an aircraft to pass directly ahead of our bus. As a result, what should have been a ten-minute drive took 25 minutes.

Two flight attendants were in the galley as I boarded the aircraft but there was no greeting or acknowledgement. Unlike previous experiences on flights on other airlines, there were no flight attendants in the aisles helping passengers prepare for departure. No one offered to hang up my coat and no beverages were offered.

I quickly found my seat, 4D, and settled in. The people in row 5 were not as lucky. Apparently, our aircraft was not correctly configured for this flight (the business-class cabin does not have a fixed number of rows; rather, a curtain is placed after the last row of business to separate the classes and the rows of seats are reconfigured from 3-3 to 2-2 based on which cabin they fall into).

Throughout boarding, three members of a Danish family in coach were unable to settle in because their seats in row 5 were configured for business, which meant there were two seats and a center table. Had a flight attendant been anywhere near, it could have been resolved easily but it became amusing when the son decided to take matters in his own hands and remove the center table (he failed). Finally, the father walked up to the purser and we had to wait for someone to come and move the curtains and reconfigure the seats, a totally unnecessary delay as the family could have been reseated elsewhere in the many available open seats.

With redecorating complete and the doors closed, we proceeded with departure, now 18 minutes behind schedule.

FLIGHT PLAN

The Airbus A321 pushed back from the stand at 9:13 a.m., 18 minutes behind schedule. We slowly taxied to the runway and were wheels up at 9:38 a.m., 20 minutes late.
