Alaska Airlines announced that members of its Mileage Plan frequent flyer program can redeem miles to cover the application fee for TSA PreCheck.

Beginning now through April 30, Mileage Plan members can redeem 10,000 miles to receive an authorization code that covers the $85 application fee for five years of TSA PreCheck membership.

To complete the redemption, a member of Mileage Plan must first simply e-mail the airline with his name and Mileage Plan number. Alaska Airlines will then deduct 10,000 miles from the member’s account within 72 hours and send an e-mail with an authorization code, which members can then use to apply for TSA PreCheck and schedule a screening appointment.

Passengers traversing a PreCheck security checkpoint can leave their shoes, belts, and light outerwear on, and do not have to remove laptops and liquids from their carry-on luggage.
