Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts announced the opening of its new property in Doha, Qatar.

The Shangri-La Hotel, Doha, which stands 50 stories tall, was designed to resemble a falcon’s head in recognition of the country’s fascination with falconry. The property is in the city’s commercial district

The hotel has 272 guestrooms and suites, as well as 42 serviced apartments. All guestrooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows, smart TVs, marble bathrooms with a deep-soaking tub and separate stall shower, and the hotelier’s signature mattress.

Arriving guests are greeted by a falconer in traditional garb and a cup of coffee made using a nomadic recipe, part of a traditional Arab gesture of hospitality.

Restaurants include Fuego, which specializes in Argentinian Kobe beef, as well as Yabby, a seafood restaurant named for the popular Australian crayfish, and the Den, a European-inspired piano lounge. In addition, a Chinese restaurant, the Shanghai Club, is scheduled to open later this year on the 42nd and 43rd levels of the hotel.

A lagoon-shaped pool is located on the premises, as is a 21,527-square-foot (2,000-square-meter) deck. The hotel also has a 24-hour fitness center, sauna, and steam rooms, as well as a spa with eight private treatment rooms.

The property also has nine function spaces including the grand Shangri-La Ballroom, as well as a business center.
