DSC_021Lufthansa announced that it took delivery of the world’s first Airbus A320neo aircraft.

The carrier said it received two of the planes at Hamburg-Finkenwerder Airport. The first, with the registration D-AINA, has been flying scheduled service since last month.

The plane was outfitted with a special logo, reading “First to fly A320neo – Less noise. Less fuel. Less CO2.”

Lufthansa says that the second will be added to its fleet in the near future.

The A320neo model range currently consists of the A319neo, A320neo, and A321neo aircraft. The letters “neo” stand for New Engine Option.

The A320neo family planes will incorporate many innovations by including the latest generation engines and large Sharklet wingtip devices.  Airbus says that these innovations will reduce fuel usage by 15%.  By 2020, the aircraft manufacturer promises to deliver 20% in fuel savings.
